That would be particularly funny, because it would mean Riot mimicked Dota for the second time in the company’s history to greater success than the original. I had some time to dig into Riot’s TFT, which is only available in League’s testing client, the Public Beta Environment (PBE), and it instantly became clear to me why it caught fire faster than Dota’s copy of the game, and why I suspect it’ll eventually be more popular than the original Auto Chess. On TFT’s release day, it passed Fortnite, League, and every other game for most-viewed title on Twitch. The race is off, and Riot seems to be winning at the moment. Riot Games’ version, abbreviated as TFT, seems to have won the popularity contest this week, hitting the top of Twitch and grabbing the attention of a variety streamers on the platform, including Lirik and DisguisedToast. And finally, Riot Games, the developers behind the most popular PC MOBA title in the world, League of Legends, have created their own version, too, called Teamfight Tactics. The original devs at Drodo are also creating a standalone version. Since then, Dota’s actual developers, Valve, have created a PC and mobile title copying Auto Chess’ formula, called Dota Underlords. Starting with an incredibly popular Dota 2 custom game mode called Auto Chess, created by Drodo Studio, the auto battle game genre has been spreading like wildfire since it began in January this year. And this year, it’s all about auto battlers.
